Tsunade is a politically active woman with a glowing family line but dark personal past. She plays it off with an attractive face (and body) and her often jovial personality; though she has a fist harder than iron and a temper to match it if you cross her. Though she tends to sneak from the bottle and cast a bet now and again (even though she declared herself a reformed gambler) she does keep Konoha in mind for almost all her decisions, even minor ones. She likes to keep tabs on what is going on so she doesn’t feel out of the loop and thinks herself a bit of a well of wisdom…whether or not she really is one (or gives sound advice).
After the death of her fiance, Dan Kato, Tsunade decided to first foster and then adopt a young man that the two of them were deciding to take in. She also took on Dan’s last name, going by Kato although she never officially married him. She also wears a tungsten wedding ring on her ring finger.

Born of a politically active family, Tsunade was a young woman with a heart full of love and a head full of dreams. Going to school with her two friends, she might have had a little crush on them when she was younger, but whether she does now or not, she does not say.
Graduating at the top of her class in Highschool, she went with scholarships into a top pre-med school and then into her preferred medical school. It was there that she met the love of her life and her declared soulmate, Dan. She fell head over heels with him and he with her. As she worked towards her residency in general surgery, he became a skilled heart surgeon; cutthroat in work but a big softie anywhere else.
So much of a softie that when they found out Dan couldn’t have kids, they decided to look into fostering or adoption. Even before they were properly married they were looking into the option. In fact, she came across a young man who needed her help with a surgery, a common appendix removal that had almost gone unnoticed because of his circumstances: He was a foster child. Tsunade’s heart went out to him, and so did Dan’s and the two of them were seriously considering taking the boy in when….
One fateful, rainy night, a call went out from a nearby, smaller hospital, asking for the help of the heart surgeon where Dan and Tsunade were residents. Tsunade and Dan both went out, sitting in the back of an ambulance. Just the week before Tsunade had accepted his marriage proposal and she wore the ring around her neck as she worked.
As the ambulance went around the corner, it skidded and then was slammed into by an oncoming car/truck thing. Then some stuff happened.
Eventually what happened is Dan got hurt and Tsunade had to finish helping one person before she could go to him and then bam he died and it wast terrible and sad and she got messed up over that. She struggled with her work again and almost pawned her ring but couldn’t, instead she keeps it locked up somewhere or something. So does wear a ring on her wedding finger, its the tungsten ring that she had gotten for Dan to wear on their soon to be wedding.
When she could no longer face going to work, she, for the first time in her life, quit. She quit her job and her education, almost complete as it was, and just left town. She wandered around, gambling and drinking and trying to have fun to push past the loneliness and the pain. Then she ended up in a hospital? she got in an accident or something. That’s where she meets Sai, seven and adorbs. She adopts him a year later and then traipse around with him, teaching him and homeschooling and stuff.
That was when she heard about the open position in Konoha, and how they needed someone to fix the mayorship, that had been corrupted and twisted and darkened with bad shiz.
So she came back, mostly cleaned up her act and waged war with her campaign and won, being elected mayor. Now she works for and with Konoha, to keep it a good place and to nurture it into a positive direction.
